Possession with У меня есть
Use 'У меня есть' + noun to say 'I have' something.
The phrase 'у меня' literally means 'at me'. Russian uses this structure for possession: 'У меня есть...' = 'I have...'. The noun after 'есть' stays in the nominative case. For negation, use 'У меня нет' + genitive: 'У меня нет ключа' = 'I don't have a key.'
